In this video, CrossFit Endurance founder Brian MacKenzie explains the method behind his madness in regard to training for endurance sports. Shunning the traditional training philosophy of increasing volume, introducing small amounts of intensity and paying little to no attention to skill training, MacKenzie employs a high-intensity, low-volume strength and stamina skill-focused approach to training for distance running and triathlon. The goal is to improve performance and decrease instances of injuries. A typical week of CrossFit Endurance training for running consists of three sessions of intervals, tempo runs or time trials and four high-intensity CrossFit workouts. “Routine is the enemy,” says MacKenzie. Each year in the United States Navy, a highly qualified and elite cadre of Sailors are selected and promoted to the join the ranks of Chief Petty Officer. Since 1893, “The Chiefs” have been relied upon by subordinates and superiors alike for their personal example, technical expertise and above all, their unique leadership capabilities. As the induction process for newly selected Chief Petty Officers is now underway throughout the US Navy, we thought it appropriate to inaugurate “The Chief” in honor and recognition of all past and present CPOs. Thanks to them and their families for their self-sacrifice, ability to adapt, tireless dedication to mission and devotion to country.

“F-J”
For Time:
60kg Power Clean & Jerk, 30 reps
After every rep, perform 2 Burpees
This WOD is named after Cell member Luke F-J who pushes himself so hard he often throws up. Whilst not a goal of our training, sometimes vomiting is an unwelcome side effect that very occassionally occurs. In Luke, his intensity is so high and his effort so great in each and every workout, he throws up more than most. Luke’s efforts are inspirational and because of that, we’ve named this very tough WOD in his honour.
