Brendan “Numbers” Doughty

Being one of the youngest athletes at The Cell has provided some unique experiences for Brendan but possibly more often for those who train with him. We thought leaving his responses in their rawest form would give the best insights into one of the many characters you’ll find at The Cell – he even added his own questions! Belinda has been training hard for the Cape Epic Mountain Bike Race and recently sent us an update.
Less than 30 days to go.
The Cape Epic Race is an 8 day event where you ride for approximately 8-10 hours per day climbing 2000-3000m and 100-120km a day.
I have gone from riding 10 hours a week to a 25 hour week. I have virtually doubled the program to accommodate the Cape Epic Race.
This is 25 hours of mostly riding mountain biking which totals about 450 to 500km a week. The intensity of my training rides is equivalent to burning up calories which an average person would eat in 3 days. I consume x8 bottles of 700ml Water Boys water in one session.
My training partner and I have seen some beautiful Western Australian sites. We have ridden from Midland to Toodyay in the Willunga National Park, Jarrahdale past Dwellingup and on the 28th I will be riding from Fremantle to Busselton and return the next day. This ride will be a total of 400km and 16 x 700ml Water Boys bottles later…
I have done everything possible to do as well as I can in South Africa and am very excited to be involved in such an International event.

We’d like to send a big shout out to everyone who has already become a member of The Cell, numbers are growing quickly and we know there are plenty of you looking forward to the group sessions commencing in February!
Our very first member was Tracy Lydiatt who was busting the door down to start training! Tracy was kind enough to share some of her thoughts about training at The Cell and we’ve put together an Athletes page to give you an idea of what training here is like – more athlete profiles and progress updates will be added over time.
Tracy cruised through the fundamentals sessions and has been training in one-on-one sessions for the past few weeks. Check out her blog hotandwetcrossfitter.blogspot.com where she has been keeping track of the training sessions. Make sure you say hi when you see her friendly face at The Cell!
The people are what this is all about. Tracy is one of many who has taken positive action in her life and she is quickly seeing the benefits!
Train hard, don’t delay!
Jason & Stef
